Belly bars are becoming increasingly popular, with thousands of designs to suit any style or occasion. Whether you want a subtle beach look or a statement piece for a night out, there’s a belly bar to match. Below, you’ll find the top five types and their key features.
Non‑dangle belly bars are the most common style, usually made from 316L Surgical Steel with a 5 mm top ball and an 8 mm bottom ball. Their compact design makes them ideal for new piercings, as they’re less likely to snag on clothing and disrupt healing. They’re available in a wide range of materials, including gold, silver, and lightweight acrylic, giving you plenty of choice to suit your style and comfort.
Dangle Belly Bars feature an added decorative element beneath the bottom ball, creating a more eye‑catching look. Designs range from elegant gem‑set drops to fun novelty styles. They’re ideal for summer or evenings out, when lighter clothing makes them comfortable to wear and allows the added sparkle to stand out.
Twist Belly Bars have a twisted bar which means the balls sit horizontally from each other in the piercing, rather than vertically like in a standard non-dangle belly bar. There is no real advantage or disadvantage to the twist belly bars, more just a matter of preference!
Pregnancy Belly Bars (or maternity) Belly Bars are designed to retain the navel piercing during pregnancy. This means the vast majority will have substantially longer bars (i.e. from 25mm upwards) and the bar itself will generally be made from PTFE. The PTFE is flexible which is perfect as the stomach grows and it's also hypoallergenic.
Reverse Belly Bars (also known as Top Down Belly Bars) have the ball attached to the bottom of the bar which goes through the piercing.
